KPN Chooses Sonim for a Comprehensive Push To Talk System

SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Sonim Technologies, the leader in push to talk IMS solutions for operators and the global provider of high-performance mobile VoIP applications and devices, today announced that KPN, one of Europe's leading telecommunications companies, has licensed the Sonim Push to Talk System. This new system will allow KPN's customers to use mobile telephones as Walkie-Talkies.

There is considerable demand for this combined functionality, particularly in industrial companies (construction, transportation, security), as well as in the repair, healthcare, catering and hotel sectors. One push of a button is all it takes to establish direct two-way contact and group calls. The system operates through the single press of a button, setting up a link with a central point. Several individual users at different locations can then receive instructions simultaneously via the central point.

These additional communications facilities are of considerable importance in cases where rapid, coordinated action is required, such as during an evacuation, a major transportation operation or at large events. To cater for this requirement, Sonim supplies a Push to Talk system, together with its XP1 handsets that are equipped with this facility.

"With Push to Talk, business will have an affordable group communications system, incorporating different mobile telephones. From KPN's point of view, Sonim is the ideal partner when it comes to supplying these services to our customers," explains Eelco Blok, a member of the Board of Management of KPN. "Sonim offers a unique combination of Push to Talk applications and equipment, which means that we are able to offer the best and most comprehensive communications solution that is currently available on the market."

"Until now, Push to Talk was only possible in a limited number of circumstances. However, Sonim has now developed a standards-based solution that makes action-based group communications in a large number of professions considerably easier," says Albert Costilo, Director of Southern Europe at Sonim. "We are especially pleased to be able to supply this new generation of services for business communications to an innovative company such as KPN."
